Here’s DMC’s (Fb | web) CNB 2014 mural in Kent Street, featuring dubstep artist/producer Skream (Oliver Jones), who was one of the artists at the Red Bull Music Academy at the end of September (which was also promoted in KVLR’s piece – see Home Taping Is Killing Music).

The Phantom Queen

2014-09-24 CNBFrizEve+

The Morrígan (the phantom queen or the great queen) is a character from Irish mythology, appearing prominently in the story of Cú Chulaınn. She takes various forms – crow, cow, wolf, eel, as shown on the right-hand side of the mural above – in addition to appearing as a young and old woman and as a trio of women. (For more info, consult WP.) This is new work by Friz (web | Fb | Tw) for Culture Night Belfast 2014.

Let’s Melt

2014-09-24 CNBConzoElphClose+

Two Scottish street artists, Conzo Throb from Glasgow and Elph from Edinburgh, combined to produce the street art above. It features Elph’s distinctive psychedelic landscapes with Conzo’s Taps Aff, with Terror Cheb protruding. (A wide shot is below.) They also each did an individual piece for CNB14: see previously Fill Up On Colour (Conzo Throb) and The Imaginarium (Elph) as well as Elph’s work for the Menagerie bar in The Piano Has Been Smoking and Eyes Wide Shut.

Belfast Stripped Bare

2014-09-22 YorkLocalsCigLovers+

Here is the left-most of a number of panels from new work by Ciaran Gallagher (web) for CNB14 – Belfast Stripped Bare – in the courtyard of the Dark Horse/Duke of York. The piece humorously depicts a row of houses with uncurtained windows which reveal the lives of the inhabitants.

In this pair, a woman smokes a cigarette on the front step of a house with portraits of Kennedy and the pope above the mantle, next door to a pregnant lesbian couple with a pride poster and a cat. The brick-work is real.

Fill Up On Colour

2014-09-21 CNBConzo+

If it’s good enough to paint with, it’s good enough to drink. Two characters colour themselves by drinking paint through straws (the male is “Taps Aff“?, with little Terror Cheb in the corner) – work by Glasgow artist Conzo Throb (web | Fb) on the shutters of the old Tivoli barbers in Lower Garfield Street for Culture Night Belfast 2014.

The Imaginarium

2014-09-21 ElphCNB14+

A new piece for CNB14 in Lower Garfield Street, immediately recognizable from Scottish artist Elph’s inimitable style, here using a palette of pinks and blues. On his Fb page you can see a sketch done in preparation for the work.
