Here are some summary wide shots of the left-hand side of hoarding around the North Street demolition site that was painted during HTN18, with Verz’s brown- and blue-eyed dog front and centre.

A wide shot is below; to the left of of Verz’s (ig) dog are a boy by Caoılfhıonn Hanton (ig), a skull and “TV” by Ominous Omin (ig), and (out of frame but included last, below) some writing by SHUK (ig).

To the right (in the wide shot below) are JMK’s Mountains Of The Mind, Danni Simpson’s The Butterfly Counts Not Months But Moments, Holly Pereira’s Just Because You Feel It, Doesn’t Mean It’s There, and (out of frame) Esther O’Kelly’s Eden Vale. In the top left of the image above is DZIA’s Run For It.

My Life In A Bag

Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reads “Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services.” A new mural in (lower) North Street aims to raise awareness of homelessness and encourage resource investment and policy development.

“148 people registered as homeless in Northern Ireland died while waiting for social housing between Oct 2017/Aug 2018.” “11,877 presenters deemed legally homeless in 2017/2018. At March 31 2018 36,198 households were on the waiting list for social housing…” “Top 3 reasons for homelessness are breakdown/family dispute, accommodation not reasonable, loss of rent accommodation.” #stillsomebody

The mural was developed by Leonard Cheshire’s Can Do Project (web), Westcourt Centre (web), and Blaze FX (Fb), with residents from Rose Mount House (Fb) and young people from Belfast Met. (BBC)

You’ve Got The Key Of The Street

Plans to redevelop Castle Arcade were published in July (NewsLetter). The arcade runs between Castle Lane and Castle Place. The castle of Belfast originally stood at the top of High Street, built by the Normans in the late 12th century and then rebuilt by Arthur Chichester in 1611 but destroyed by fire in 1708 after which the area became commercialised (Belfast Entries | Belfast Castle). Future Belfast

Planning permission has been granted for a 16-storey residential building at the junction of Academy Street and Exchange Street, currently the site of street art by Dan Kitchener (The Dream), Friz (Thy Fearful Symmetry), Visual Waste (Harley Quinn), and Marca Mix (Keyboard Wizard). Work begins in “early 2019”.

The Devil’s Bagpipes

In this grotesque image, a monk’s head serves as an instrument of the devil – a Reformation criticism of the Catholic church. The woodcut dates to c. 1530. The ogham script in the bottom pair of posters, which reads “Fucc [sic – there is no “k”] the DUP”, is not included in the original (British Museum). The modern reinterpretation is by TLO (ornamentalhermit.org). The ogham on the devil’s arm is unclear; it appears to read “cussfbelung” – comment if you can help.

Buoys-A-Buoys

Since the 1980s (BBC | BelTel), Belfast’s maritime history has been celebrated in the form of three buoys outside the Belfast School of Art (known to all as “the art college) in York Street. They were given a face-lift during CNBX/HTN18 by DMC (ig) (above) and (in the middle, below) KVLR and (on the left) Nol (web | ig | Fb).
