The Accidental Theatre Company (web | Fb) is an experimental theatre company that has taken over 12-13 Shaftesbury Square for the time being. Before Christmas they put on a Michelle & Arlene Holiday Special, with the two political leaders on the run from their self-imposed isolation (review by Alan In Belfast) but still trying to do a deal. The mural above is in the style of another holiday odd-couple road tale, the 1987 film Planes, Trains And Automobiles. Along with theatre duo Amadan, they are “keeping Belfast weird” – artwork by Verz (Fb), below.

She Is My Spy As I Am Hers

In Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, the handmaids have shopping partners, so that they are always under observation: “She is my spy as I am hers”. Artist Leo Boyd adds to the dystopian air of the book by combining the handmaid (from the new TV adaptation of the book – currently available only in the US) with an outdated computer monitor.

Ulster Reform Club

The Ulster Reform Club (web) opened in 1885 and has resided at 4 Royal Avenue, Belfast since then. The mosaic is of the emblem of the club; it includes the flag of Ulster (red hand on a cross with yellow background) with a three-in-one shamrock (Ireland), rose (England), and thistle (Scotland) in the top-left quadrant
