This is an IRPWA (Fb) board protesting the treatment of republican prisoners in Maghaberry “torture camp”, next to Free Derry Corner, with a Palestinian flag and the Bogside Artists’ Bloody Sunday mural in the background.
IRPWA is the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association (web | Fb), a body working to support republican prisoners and their families in Maghaberry, Portlaoise, and Hydebank. Barbed wire has long been the symbol of political prisoners, both republican (1981) and loyalist (1988). Previously in this series of boards: éıstıgí | Sniper At Work | IRA | Beır Bua
A variety of posters for marches in Easter week: on the 14th, Saoradh’s call for a counter-protest to the march by former soldiers against prosecutions for deaths during the Troubles (see e.g. Irish News); on the 16th, an Easter Rising commemorative march, somehow associated with the IRA’s D Company; on the 17th (see the final image, below), an Easter Rising commemoration in Derry, organised by Saoradh (and on the 30th – also in the final image below – a commemoration for “Óglach Teddy Campbell”).
The crew whiles away the hours sitting atop a Bogside stairwell, with IRA-emblazoned tricolour fluttering overhead, keeping an eye on a heap of bonfire wood. Below: another tricolour in the same area, with “Brits out now – IRA” board beneath.
The IRPWA (tw | Fb) placed the names of prisoners currently held in Maghaberry in the barbed wire above the so-called “international” wall. Barbed wire is the symbol of republican prisoners though this barbed wire is used to protect Andrews Flour. Above, you can see the boards for Harkin, Mellon and McGilloway.

“RNU call for the release of Leonard Peltier – http://www.freeleonard.org“. The lower left-hand panel of the RNU spot on Northumberland Street is serving as a changeable notice-board – it was previously The Popular Front.
Peltier has been in jail since 1977, convicted of killing two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Reservation in 1975 and sentenced to two life-sentences (WP).
