Break The Connection With England

“Ireland did not vote for Tory cuts. Break the connection with England. www.irsp.ie. Páırtí poblachtach sóısıalaıgh na hÉireann.”

This IRSP/INLA board outside the party offices on the Falls Road protests policies coming from the Westminster parliament and specifically the Conservatives. On the left-hand side of the board are an adjustable pipe-wrench (for IRSP) and a rifle (for INLA). The sticker on a post-box is in Cavendish Street.

Hasta La Victoria Siempre

03998-2017-01-11-fidel-hasta-irsp

“¡Hasta la victoria siempre!” (“Ever onward to victory!”) was a saying of Che Guevara’s. It is used in this mural as a valediction to Che comrade and long-time Cuban leader Fidel Castro, who died at the end of November (2016). The portrait of Castro is perhaps this Korda image of Castro entering Havana after the deposition of Batista in 1959.

Fallen Comrades

2014-06-28 INLAFallen+

INLA volunteers Paul McCann, Matt McLarnon, Danny Loughran, and Gino Gallagher are commemorated in a new board unveiled today (2014-06-29) on Northumberland Street.

The work shows the four in uniform against a backdrop of Divis flats, St. Peters, and the plough in the stars. Information about the deaths of each of the four can be found via this IRSP page. The IRSP/Teach Na Fáılte sponsored the piece, which is by Fra Maher and covers over the centre part of the yellow IRSP mural.

Maher also did the anti-fascist/Spanish civil war mural at the left edge of the image above.

Housing Rights Are Human Rights

“Housing right – human rights. 5,000 sleeping rough on our streets, 100,000 families on waiting lists, 350,000 empty properties. There are no excuses!” IRSP poster in CNR Belfast, with two stickers on the lamp-post: “An Bhreataın amach as Éırınn – Saoırse Anoıs!” and “Free Marian Price”.

History Is Written By The Winner

The mask of “revisionism” is lifted from the “truth” of “Irish history”. The quote is here attributed to Miriam Daly of the IRSP (web), but it or something like it has been attributed to Napoleon, Göring, and Churchill.

The mural was originally painted “Aug ’96” by Ciaran McKernan, Brian O’Loan, and Miriam’s son Donal Daly. (An in-progress shot can be found on Sean Patrick Allen’s Facebook page.) The mural is now in poor condition owing to all the graffiti along the bottom.
