Despite the “Work in progress!” tag, this Glen Molloy (ig) mural to the recently deceased Carrie Fisher (in the guise of Princess Leia from Star Wars) didn’t go any further. Fisher died two days after George Michael, to whom Molloy also painted a tribute.

In addition to many paintings in a distinctive style, Belfast artist John Luke’s (one | two) work included a few murals, most famously an image of Belfast’s Charter painted in the City Hall. He lends his name to the gallery in north Belfast’s Arts For All centre which is now fronted by a mural in his style.

There are 11 faces in the railings of the Royal Victoria Hospital, created by Bruce Williams and Avril Wilson in 2000, one for each decade in age from infancy to 100 years old. The letters “X” and “Y” run along the top of the helically-twisting railings between the portraits, representative of DNA. Included here are the portraits for 20, 80, and 50.

Poet Seamus Heaney died on this day 2013 and the gravestone erected in St Mary’s, Ballaghy, on the same day the following year. The epitaph is “Walk on air against your better judgement” from the poem ‘The Gravel Walks” in The Spirit Level.
