Dublin art collective subset (ig | web) has been battling Dublin County Council over the permissions process for street art in the city since the council ordered the removal of its 2017 mural of rapper Stormzy in December of that year (RTÉ). The ongoing protests currently take the form of the group’s Grey Area Project (video | Huck).
Here are the first two panels (of six) of their their ‘Valar Morghulis‘ piece in Lower Donegall Street when some members came north for CNBX/HTN18 in September. The first piece replaces Lisa Murphy’s 2017 CNB piece, which we called Ecstasy. The second is by weaks (ig).

Alice Pasquini (web | Fb | ig) from Rome, Italy, took part in this year’s CNBX/HTN18. She describes her Donegall Street piece with a quote from Italo Calvino: “Take life lightly, for lightness is not superficial, but gliding above things, not having weights on your heart”.

Continuity IRA or Irish Republican National Congress (IRNC – see Join The IRNC and Maid Of Erin) member Niall Lehd was initially arrested on explosives charges in 2014 (BBC-NI) and given early release in 2016 (An Phoblacht) but returned to jail a year ago, in March of 2018 (Irish News). In December he was charged on several counts relating to terrorism and explosives (Belfast Live). Lehd professes his innocence and says his license was revoked simply because he is “an unrepentant republican” (Free Niall Lehd campaign). His cause has been added to the IRPC (Irish Republican Prisoners Committee | Fb) board on Northumberland Street.

Danni Simpson (web | ig) is a world-travelling Australian who has settled (for now?) in Belfast. Between trips abroad, she painted the piece below back in May for Wardrobe Jam near CS Lewis Square in east Belfast (Andrew Stewart has a gallery of pics of the wardrobes being painted) – the two lions’ heads on the corner walls are intended to look like wings – and for Culture Night 2018 she painted more wings, this time on the hoarding around the demolished 100-year-old buildings in North Street (Belfast Live | BelTel).

Craig Faulkner died by suicide on July 8th, 2016 (Belfast Live). His was one of the deaths among amateur footballers that spurred the SAMHI initiative (Belfast Live). (See previously: It’s OK To Talk). This board to his memory is on the path between Hightown Road carpark (above the Horseshoe Bend) and the top of the Cavehill Road – he was from and played soccer in Ballysillan.
