If there’s one thing superheroes like doing, it’s breaking down brick walls. At least, Spider Man, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Wonder Woman do. Cat Woman crawls in via a tunnel painted on a buttress to the wall at the entrance to the Slıabh Dubh estate. The murals were painted by a local artist and local children. A wide shot was included in Yes Yes Catalonia.

War And Peace

The three central panels of the World Wars memorial in Tullycarnet (featured separately), along with two smaller stones, stand in front of a mural reading “Time for peace. Invest in kids … not war!”. The image of a boy playing with a ball against a wall is based on a 1994 photograph by Crispin Rodwell. The slogan in the photograph, originally, was “Time for peace; time to go” but for publication, as here, the second part was cropped out.

All The Children Laugh And Shout

Here is a detail from a fairly long mural depicting children’s street games and Mickey Marley’s Roundabout (pulled by his horse Joey) on a wall and security gate that are part of the Townsend Street “peace” line. (For another pole swing, see Stroud Street.) Mickey Marley was so well-known that a song was written for him, which you can hear on youtube.

Townsend Street Presbyterian church can be seen in the background and in the mural. For the part on the gate, see Through The Wardrobe.
